Corporate Governance Statement
The Corporate Governance Statement sets out how Swansea University is governed, demonstrating our commitment to transparency, accountability, and good practice.
External Effectiveness of Council
In 2023, Swansea University’s Council commissioned an independent effectiveness review in line with the Committee of University Chairs (CUC) Higher Education Code of Governance, which requires universities to review governance every three years. The review concluded that significant assurance could be placed in the University’s governance arrangements, that Council activities were conducted in accordance with the HE Code, and that improvements since the 2019 review, including recommendations from the independent review of governance in Wales led by Gillian Camm, had strengthened governance. While some enhancement opportunities were identified, the robustness of governance was not affected, and the University remains committed to continuous alignment with relevant codes and recommendations. The full report will be published in due course but can be requested from the University Secretary, Ms Louise Woollard (L.A.Woollard@swansea.ac.uk). The next review is scheduled for the 2025–26 academic year.
Remuneration at Swansea University
The University's remuneration Committee sets out the reward strategy and determines the pay and terms for the Vice-Chancellor and Senior Management Team, taking account of affordability and sector benchmarks to ensure the University can recruit and retain high-quality leaders while monitoring performance to support continued success. The Committee also reviews recommendations on the remuneration of Professors and Grade 11 Directors.
