THE CHANCELLOR'S AWARD 2025

RECOGNISING INNOVATIVE APPROACHES ACROSS OUR COMMUNITY

The Chancellor’s Award recognises members of the Swansea University staff and student community who have made an outstanding contribution to the life, reputation or impact of our University. Each year, the Chancellor’s Award will be presented for recent work aligned to a particular theme.

We are extremely proud of our University’s legacy of innovation and the continued generation of imaginative new ideas across our community. For the 2025 Awards, we are therefore seeking applications that focus on particularly innovative approaches; whether within blue-skies research or applied innovation activity (including spinning out companies and the development of new products), within teaching and learning or the development of practical new ways of working within our University and beyond.

Nominations are welcome from all sections of our Swansea University community, with two awards presented each year; one for members of our University staff and one for members of our student body.

The judges will be looking for examples of outstanding contributions to Swansea University itself and/or more widely (including other regions, nations or sectors). Entries should relate to at least one of our University’s key strategic pillars: civic mission, student experience, learning and teaching, research and innovation and enterprise.

Winners will be presented with their award at one of our summer Graduation ceremonies, where their contribution will be celebrated. Their names will also be added to the Chancellor’s Awards roll of honour.

Guidance notes

Nominations are welcome from all staff and students, whether individuals or teams. Please note that for staff nominations, we will accept a maximum of two applications per academic School or Professional Services Unit.

Nominations will be accepted for any activity undertaken recently that can be aligned to the Award’s theme.

Entries should be no longer than 1,500 words in length, including:

 A short, third-person lay summary of the application for use in citations and publicity;

  • Description of the nature of the contribution and its impacts, with particular focus on how the work has benefited either our University or and/or external individuals or communities;
  • Description of any plans to continue or further develop the initiative in future;
  • Evidence to support the impact of the initiative (e.g. media coverage, photographs testimonials) may be submitted as an optional appendix of no more than 500 words. Please ensure that images submitted do not exceed 1MB.

Nominations will be received, assessed and shortlisted by a sub-committee of the Honorary Awards Committee and the two winning entries will be selected by the Chancellor.

Please note that staff applications must be endorsed formally by the relevant Pro-Vice-Chancellor Executive Dean, Head of School or Professional Services Director.
