Academi Hywel Teifi welcomes the election of a full-time Welsh Affairs Officer
Swansea University has welcomed the election of Megan Colbourne as Swansea University Students' Union's first full-time Welsh Affairs Officer.
The Welsh Affairs Officer is currently a part-time and voluntary role, but the new post will be a full-time paid role.
Megan, a Geography student from Llandysul, will take up her post in June.
Working closely with other Union full time officers, as well as Academi Hywel Teifi, Megan will provide support and representation for Welsh speaking students, ensuring Welsh medium provision within welfare, culture, sport and other Welsh medium activities within the University.
Gwyn Aled, Swansea University Students' Union President, said: "It was great that students voted to create a full-time Welsh Affairs Officer post last year, as they felt that there was not sufficient representation for Welsh speakers within the University. Now that Megan has won the election, the Union is looking forward to working with her to ensure that Welsh speaking students are fairly represented, and that international students also have a taste of Welsh language culture during their studies here in Swansea. ”

This progressive step will ensure that there is a stronger voice within the Union for the thousands of Welsh speakers who are students at the University. We in the Academi look forward to working closely with Megan in supporting, developing and promoting the Welsh medium educational provision and Welsh language services within the Union and the University. ”
