Brian Davies OBE

Brian is a Swansea University alumnus and CEO of Sport Wales.

Brian is a graduate of the Management School at Swansea University. His passion for sport was evident during his time at Swansea, where he played rugby for the University team and was a captain of the rugby club.  He was also elected as a member of the Athletic Union management committee.

Brian was appointed as CEO of Sport Wales in February 2023.  In this role, Brian is responsible for overseeing the strategic and operational activities of the Welsh Government sponsored public body, Sport Wales, by working with its Chair, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and her Board.

His appointment is the culmination of over 25 years’ experience working with Government policy makers and both professional and voluntary sports organisations.  It also stems from his own outstanding career as a sportsman, which includes playing rugby for Saracens RFC from 1990-1997 and captaining them from 1992-1996.

He has worked as Director of Elite Sport at Sport Wales, as a Business Analyst for both AXA and Ford Motor Co. and he was responsible for establishing the Golf Development Wales subsidiary as part of 2010 Ryder Cup Wales.

Having served as general team manager for Team Wales at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, he was then appointed as Chef de Mission at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Brian was proudly awarded the OBE for services to sport in November 2016.

Brian’s love of sport, and his affiliation with the University, has led to his wholehearted personal support of the current £132 million Swansea Bay City Deal Campuses project, through which Swansea University and its partners will promote innovation and business growth in the flourishing medical technology and sports technology sectors.
