Ravindran is an alumnus of this University who has shown extraordinary professional acumen throughout his 30-year career, effectively transforming businesses, resolving crises, and preparing effective business strategies across a range of industries.
Ravindran Navaratnam graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Wales, Swansea. He subsequently became a graduate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (England & Wales).
He spent his early career between Singapore and the UK working for companies including Seagate Technology and Touche Ross & Co. From 1992 to 2002, he rose up the ranks of Coopers & Lybrand, which evolved to PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting, Kuala Lumpur, servicing East Asia where he eventually became the Director of the financial services sector. During this time, he participated in pivotal restructuring and strategic advisory assignments that aided the evolution of the financial sector in Malaysia.
He played an instrumental role in Maybank Group's restructuring, enhancing its business orientation and prior to the Asian financial crisis, he led the development of advisory services for the securities industry in Malaysia and Hong Kong.
He spent 1998 to 2001 as General Manager of Corporate Services at Danaharta and was part of the team that successfully managed the banking crisis in Malaysia, enabling the financial sector to return to stability.
From 2002 to 2005, Ravindran served as Chief Information Officer at Bursa Malaysia (formerly Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange). He played a crucial role in the transformation of the exchange, ensuring its continued operational efficiency and successful listing as a public listed company.
Ravindran co-founded Sage 3 Capital Sdn Bhd (“Sage 3”) and acted as the Managing Director from 2006 to 2018, where he led the establishment of one of Malaysia's largest and most reputable boutique corporate finance firms. In 2018, as part of Sage 3’s expansion and reorganization, he assumed the position of Executive Director at Sage 3 Sdn Bhd.
Ravindran is a multilingual speaker and has appeared regularly at international conferences, speaking on the subject of restructuring and exchange technology, in locations including Tokyo, Dublin, Singapore, and Boston. He has also hosted a weekly programme: Rethinking Balance Sheets, focused on corporate finance.
Ravindran has been published in Fair Observer, along with Sage 3’s publications on Rethinking Economics. His work was featured in the case study of Malaysia for the Harvard Business School.
He is presently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration program at Hong Kong University Science & Technology.
