Work will commence within Swansea Bay Sports Park on Monday 16 March on the new National Institute for Sport & Health building.
The new facility will support the development of a multidisciplinary sport-tech, med-tech and healthcare community focused on advancing sport, health and wellbeing. Read more here.
Project Background
Conveniently located within Swansea Bay Sports Park, adjacent to the University’s Singleton Campus and Singleton Hospital, the 2,000m² four-storey building will include a health and wellbeing academy, simulation suite, media facilities and collaborative working space – take a virtual tour.
We are pleased to have appointed Willmott Dixon as principal contractor for the project. The team at Willmott Dixon will work closely with Swansea University and Swansea Bay Sports Park to ensure access to the sports facilities is maintained and disruption minimised throughout the build programme. The project is expected to be completed by Autumn 2027.
Initial Programme of Works
Initial activity on site will begin with preparation works:
- Monday 16 March – site set-up and installation of site welfare facilities.
- Week commencing 23 March – scaffolding installation.
- April – internal demolition works within the existing pavilion building will commence.
Customer Car Parking
In order to minimise impact on customer parking, we have worked with Willmott Dixon to keep the size of the site compound to a minimum. There may be opportunities to reduce the compound size during the project, allowing additional parking spaces to be released. We have also secured free overflow car parking for our customers within the Health Board staff car park – see plan below.
We will continue to provide updates as the project progresses. If you have any questions or concerns about the works, please email us at: campusdevelopment@swansea.ac.uk.
