One of the most versatile and multi-talented of Wales’s professional writers of the post-war period, Richards became known to the general public as the script-writer of such notable TV successes as The Onedin Line.
He was also, however, a very fine fiction writer, whose short-stories and novels (including Home to an Empty House, recently reprinted in the prestigious Library of Wales series) were witty and probing essays on the English-language communities of the industrial valleys and coastal cities of South Wales during the post-war period.
The collection of materials kindly gifted to CREW by the writer’s widow and family, and now being archived by the University’s Library and Information Services department include manuscript and typescript drafts of Richards’ works in many genres. They also include examples of the correspondence between him and his great friend Ron Berry.
