8-11 year olds Competition 2025

Last year over Easter 10 year old me, Alfie, was thrilled that my parents announced we were going to Paris. "Paris? Like, real Paris?" I asked, barely able to believe it. I packed my dragon teddy, snacks, and some chocolate for "emergencies," and off we went to the airport. In Paris, I immediately tried to be as French as possible, greeting pigeons with "Bonjour, monsieur!" But they weren't impressed. My first mission was to Conquer the Eiffel Tower. "I'm gonna climb it like Spider-Man!" I declared, sprinting toward the tower. Dad suggested the elevator, but I insisted on scaling it like a monkey, only to be stopped by a very confused security guard. Once at the top, we all stared out over the city. "It's like a giant board game!" I exclaimed. I tried to convince Bella that the Eiffel Tower was a giant alien spaceship. Me and Bella spent the rest of the morning making odd poses with baguettes and pretending to be in a spy movie. At lunch, mum and dad ordered snails, I quickly declared, "I'm not trying to become a snail myself!" I stuck to chicken nuggets. By the time we boarded the plane home, I was already planning the next adventure. "Next time, let's go to the moon. I heard the snacks are out of this world."

Miles and miles of soft buttery golden sands, Searching in shallow rock pools for rancorous crabs, Salty sea splashes onto tiny toes, As the wild waves crash and the breezy wind blows.

People in their swimsuits get ready for the sea, And the squawking seagulls above are so very free, White vanilla ice cream like a summer's dream, Blazing hot rays melt into glorious sunbeams.

And then the crash of thunder and the rain returns again, Scrambling into shelter, grabbing everything. It's time to go home. And like a flash everyone retreats to their cars, Hoping the rain would sometime pass.

I remember swimming happily in the sparkling ocean, licking my delicious, creamy ice cream while taking a bite out of my sticky bun.

I remember making endless sandcastles decorated with millions of seashells.

I took another bite of my sticky bun while sliding down my enormous mountain of hot, fine sand.

I remember watching the sunset fall calmy until it was out of sight, I watched the tide lap in and out as the ocean slowly rolled towards me.

I sipped my fizzy drink and relaxed while watching an intense football match, I could see the endless mountains towering over the calm ocean.
