Electronic and Electrical Engineering

Electronic and Electrical Engineering is a fast-changing and exciting field of engineering, comprising of semiconductor technology, electronics, digital computers, software engineering, power engineering, renewable energy engineering, telecommunications, radio-frequency engineering, signal processing, instrumentation, control systems, and robotics.

Here at Swansea we offer BEng and MEng undergraduate degrees with Year In Industry and Year Abroad options as well as postgraduate MScs in Power Engineering and Sustainable Energy, and Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

All our courses are accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council and are developed through working closely with the industry partners and advisors.

Our department's research interests and expertise are grouped into the following areas; Energy and Power, Semiconductor and Nanotechnology and Communications, Systems and Software.

UKESF Girls into Electronics Programme

The UKESF Girls into Electronics programme is a unique opportunity for female students in years 10, 11 and 12 to explore Electronics. At the heart of the programme is a series of one-day events, during the summer term, hosted by the UKESF’s partner universities. During the day, participating students find out more about Electronics and studying the subject at university level, hear from female graduate engineers working in the sector and get ‘hands on’ with Arduino microcontrollers.

Since 2022, the Girls into Electronics programme has inspired over 1000 young women. Swansea University is pleased to announce it will be running a Girls into Electronics event on Thursday, 26 June 2025.

If you’re a teacher interested in taking a group of our students or a student wanting to make an individual booking, you can book now! As a charity, the UKESF want their courses to be accessible to all, so if the admin fee is a barrier, please get in touch with them before booking - info@ukesf.org.
