Scoring: number of correct answers out of a total of 40
The test consists of three texts of general interest, with an academic slant. There are 12 to 14 comprehension questions on each text. Question types include; multiple choice, True or False, short written answers, matching paragraph headings and summary gap-fill.
Writing
Duration: 60 minutes
Scoring: based on task fulfilment, organisation and range and accuracy of grammar and vocabulary
The writing test is made up of two tasks, each worth 50%. Candidates should write about 200 words for each task.
Task 1: summary and interpretation of data given in a visual form (e.g. chart, graph, etc.)
Task 2: on a similar theme as task 1 but requiring personal opinion on a current topic
Listening
Duration: 35 minutes
Scoring: number of correct answers out of a total of 40
The listening test is divided into four sections, each with 10 comprehension questions. Recordings include conversations, short talks, and news items. Question types include; multiple choice, short answers (single word or number), completion of tables, labelling of diagrams.
You should note down your answers on a piece of paper while you listen to the audio, and you can then enter your answers to that section.
Speaking
Duration: 10 minutes
Scoring: based on fluency, coherence, pronunciation, and range and accuracy of grammar and vocabulary
The speaking test is an interview divided into two parts.
Part 1a: personal questions about the candidate
Part 1b: short discussion on an unseen topic (with images to compare)
Part 2: discussion on an unseen issue (with images to describe, discuss, and evaluate)
