Wilfrid Laurier has two campuses in Ontario the first is in Waterloo (Arts, Music, Science, Business & Economics) and the second in Brantford (Human and Social Sciences, Liberal Arts, Business & Economics). Both are a short drive from the great lakes and Toronto. Students at Waterloo are known as Golden Hawks. You can expect to experience all four seasons when you are at Wilfrid Laurier from warm summers to cold winters. Instructors at Laurier have been recognised for their dedication, engagement and passion for teaching, providing an excellent environment for you to learn in. On Campus accommodation is available for exchange students.
It will not be possible to complete a year abroad at this University if you have any assessments, such as supplementary or deferred exams, during the August assessment period at Swansea University.
WHO CAN STUDY HERE?
Swansea has a ‘university-wide’ partnership with this university which means that it is open to all subject areas except for American Studies, English Language, Social Policy, Law or Engineering.
Spaces are not guaranteed, can be limited and all students on a semester/year abroad programme are subject to a university-wide, competitive selection process.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
ACADEMIC YEAR: Runs September to April
COSTS: The cost of living while studying at Wilfrid Laurier will vary depending on your chosen accommodation and your lifestyle. You may be responsible for paying additional student fees during your studies.
VISA: You will need a Study Permit and will be required to provide financial evidence of at least CAN$20,635 (subject to change). The Study Permit application fee is approx. CAN$150. Your host university will provide you with more information about the application process. You must allow enough time to complete the study permit application and for your study permit to be processed and sent to you. There can be significant delays so please do not leave this until the last minute as you cannot travel to Canada without it.
ACCOMMODATION: The Department of Residence has a limited supply of rooms in university residences available for exchange students. Demand for rooms is much greater than supply, particularly for students studying in the fall semester. Residence is designed to meet the needs of first-year students and includes a mandatory meal plan, so many exchange students prefer to seek off-campus housing, which is available through private rentals. Information about both options is sent to students once they have been accepted to study at Laurier.
HEALTH INSURANCE: You will be required to take out the mandatory health cover. The Universal Health Insurance Plan is a mandatory charge for all students and a student is automatically enrolled prior to arrival. UHIP provides coverage for basic medical services and treatments a student might need to maintain good health while living in Canada
