If you choose to study at Université Catholique de l'Ouest (UCO) you will based at the campus in Angers, the capital of the Maine-et-Loire department in the northwestern region of the Loire Valley in France. UCO has a vibrant campus life, giving students the opportunity to meet outside the classroom and to discover and enjoy the richness and diversity of UCO’s student population. UCO community life includes a total of 24 cultural and sport clubs and organisations, and a wide range of events and highlights supervised by the Cultural Office take place throughout the year.

It will not be possible to complete a year abroad at this University if you have any assessments, such as supplementary or deferred exams, during the August assessment period at Swansea University.

Important information

ACADEMIC YEAR: Runs September to May. 

COSTS: The cost of living in Angers will vary depending on the accommodation you choose. 

VISA:  You may need to apply for a long-stay visa (more than 90 days) to study in UCO Angers and you will be required to provide proof of sufficient funds as part of the application. The fee for the visa application is 99 EUR. UCO Angers will provide further information on the visa application process and you can also visit the French Government webpage. You must apply for the visa early to allow plenty of time for your application to be processed ahead of your arrival in France. There can be significant delays so please do not leave this until the last minute as you cannot travel to France without it.

ACCOMMODATION: The accommodation office offers a variety of housing options including homestay, student residence or privately owned student residences. 

HEALTH INSURANCE: Non European students must have medical insurance for the duration of the stay, before arriving in France. Upon arrival, students must register with the French general social security system. Registration is done online and is free of charge.
