Founded in 1875, the Catholic University of Lille - commonly known as "Catho" is the largest private university in France. Conveniently loacted just 55 minutes from Paris, 80 minutes from London and 35 minutes from Brussles by train, it  serves as a major European hub and is the second largest university centre in France.

Important information

ACADEMIC YEAR: Runs from the end of August/early September to June. 

COSTS: The cost of living in Lille will depend on your choice of accommodation and lifestyle. 

VISA: You may need to apply for a long-stay visa (more than 90 days) to study in Lille and you will be required to provide proof of sufficient funds as part of the application. The fee for the visa application is 99 EUR. UC Lille will provide further information on the visa application process and you can also visit the French Government webpage. You must apply for the visa early to allow plenty of time for your application to be processed ahead of your arrival in France. There can be significant delays, so please do not leave this until the last minute as you cannot travel to France without it.

ACCOMMODATION: ALL Logement manages 20 student residences in the centre of Lille and metropolitan area. Ranging from rooms to studies, there is a wide range of options to suit all needs and budgets.  The University also works in partnership with Studapart to find accommodation in the private sector. 

HEALTH INSURANCE: Lille advises taking out health insurance policy before you arrive in France to cover the duration of your exchange placement. In France, health insurance is free and compulsory for everyone. You must register with the French student social security system to benefit from the same protection as French students.
