Toulouse (also known as ‘La Ville Rose’ – the Pink City) is a city based on the Garonne river in southwestern France, near the Pyrenées in the Midi-Pyrenées region, halfway between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Toulouse is the fourth largest city in France after Paris, Marseille and Lyon and is renowned for being a city of rugby and violets. Toulouse is a sporty university with over 33 different sports activities available at all levels, and also has a strong arts and culture scene. Accommodation on campus is available through CROUS but not guaranteed, so students should apply as early as possible and the University can also advise on other housing options off campus.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR: Runs end of August to start of July. 

COSTS: The cost of living in Toulouse will vary depending on your chosen accommodation and your lifestyle.  

VISA:  You may need to apply for a long-stay visa (more than 90 days) to study in Toulouse and you will be required to provide proof of sufficient funds as part of the application. The fee for the visa application is 99 EUR. Toulouse will provide further information on the visa application process and you can also visit the French Government webpage. You must apply for the visa early to allow plenty of time for your application to be processed ahead of your arrival in France. There can be significant delays so please do not leave this until the last minute as you cannot travel to France without it.

ACCOMMODATION: Places in university residences are limited and subject to certain conditions. It is advisable to find out about other accommodation options as soon as possible.

HEALTH INSURANCE: Non European students must have medical insurance for the duration of the stay, before arriving in France. Upon arrival, students must register with the French general social security system. Registration is done online and is free of charge.
