Yokohama City University (YCU) is located in Japan's largest municipality. YCU operates four campuses across the city; Kanazawa-Hakkei Campus, Fukuura Campus, Maioka Campus and Tsurumni Campus. The undergraduate courses are shared across five schools and Swansea is partnered directly with the School of Economics and Business Administration.
Yokohama is a vibrant port city and the second-largest city in Japan with a population of over 3.7 million. Conveniently located in the centre of Japan with easy access to other major cities by bullet train, the city is known for its blend of modern innovation and historical charm.

Important information
ACADEMIC YEAR: The academic year is in reverse to the UK, starting in semester 2 and finishing after semester 1. You will start around the end of September and finish in early August.

VISA: You may need a student visa for your stay in Japan, please refer to the Study in Japan Government webpage for further details. YCU will provide more details upon acceptance of the next steps. More information is available via our visa and study permit webpage. There can be delays so please do not leave this until the last minute as you cannot travel to Japan without it.
ACCOMMODATION: YCU's International Office will assist exchange students in finding affordable accommodation. Students will be placed in either the Yokohama International Student House or YCU's shared International Dormitory. YCU can also introduce students to dependable companies which specialise in sourcing international student accommodation.
HEALTH INSURANCE: You may need to enrol in Japan's National Health Insurance (NHI) programme to study in Japan. This will provide students with access to necessary medical services. YCU will provide more information about the NHI programme and related costs as part of your application.
