The University is located in Groningen just under 2 hours away from Amsterdam and 40 minutes from the German border. Summers in Groningen are warm and humid, winter temperatures are cool with frosts common, there is often snowfall however it does not tend to lie long. The university has a very active Erasmus Student network that organises over 150 events in the year so there is plenty to get involved with.
It will not be possible to complete a year abroad at this University if you have any assessments, such as supplementary or deferred exams, during the August assessment period at Swansea University.

COSTS: The cost of living in Groningen will vary depending on your accommodation and lifestyle. More information on cost of living can be found here.
VISA: Groningen's Immigration Service Desk (ISD) are appointed by Dutch law to handle residence permit applications on behalf of their students. You will need to complete and upload your documents to the online form and pay the fees by the deadline at the beginning of July. The current ISD application fee is 228 EUR. As part of the residence permit application, you will need to evidence proof of sufficient funds for your time at Groningen. The amount will depend on the duration of your programme. The maximum amount for 12 months requires proof of 15,000 EUR. The preferred method is a transfer of the specified amount to a secure bank account held by the ISD. You can provide provide proof of funds with student loan and bursary letters if the funds meet the requirements set by Groningen. Bank statements, account statements and bank letters are not accepted. You will need to make sure that you apply and provide proof of funds in plenty of time to have your residence permit approved before the start of your placement. Costs and deadlines are subject to change.
ACCOMMODATION: On-campus accommodation is not available at Groningen. It is the responsibility of the student to find accommodation and student accommodation across the Netherlands is limited.
