South Korea is officially know as the Republic of Korea, and refers to the southern half of the Korean Peninsula, with North Korea to the north, China across the sea to the west and Japan a short ferry ride to the southeast. In recent years, a phenomenon known as the "Korean Wave" (or Hallyu) in which the popularity of South Korean film, television, music, food and other culture aspects has swept most of Asia and many other parts of the world has brought increased attention to the country.

ACADEMIC YEAR: Typically late August to late June. You will not be able to complete a year abroad in Korea if you have resits
VISAS: You will need a D-2-6 Visa. All students are responsible for applying for an exchange student visa (D-2-6) by submitting the Certificate of Admission issued by their host university to the Korean Consulate in their home country. Your host university will provide you with specific information about the process. You need to prove you have access to approx £6000 for the academic year (subject to change)
HEALTH INSURANCE: You will need to purchase health insurance from your host university
