The university is a residential campus in Athens, Ohio, overlooking the Hocking River. The climate of Ohio is generally humid, summers are hot throughout the state, while winters range from cool to cold, rain is moderate year round. Ohio has several long-distance hiking trails, the most prominent is the Buckeye Trail which is approximately 2,324 km. The university competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level. Ohio's athletics teams, known as the Bobcats, compete under the official colours of hunter green and white. The school mascot is Rufus the Bobcat, and you will find a life-sized sculpture of Rufus welcoming you, at the entrance to Peden Stadium. With over 500 student organizations and 108 countries represented throughout the university you’ll have plenty of opportunities to get involved and make some great connections.
It will not be possible to complete a year abroad at this University if you have any assessments, such as supplementary or deferred exams, during the August assessment period at Swansea University.

COSTS: The cost of living in Ohio will vary depending on the type of accommodation and meal plan you select. For visa purposes, you will be required to provide financial evidence for a specific amount. Further details are below.
VISA: You will need a J-1 exchange visa and will be required to provide financial evidence. Your host university will provide you with more information about the application process. To apply for a visa, you will need to pay a SEVIS fee of approx $220 plus an application fee of approx $185. In addition, you should factor in the cost of attending a visa interview at the US Embassy (typically in London). More information is available on our visa and study permit webpage. You must allow enough time to complete the visa application and for your visa to be sent to you. There can be significant delays so please do not leave this until the last minute as you cannot travel to the USA without it.
ACCOMMODATION: Undergraduate exchange students generally live in OHIO's residence halls.
HEALTH INSURANCE: You will be required to purchase mandatory health insurance for your time at Ohio. ALL exchange students are automatically enrolled in the Ohio Student Health Insurance.
