Located in the heart of the Houston-Dallas-Austin triangle, Texas A&M is a coeducational public research university in College Station, Texas. It is a state flagship university, designated as a land, sea, and space grant institution–the only university in Texas to hold all three. Within its faculty there are 19 members of the national Academy of Engineering as well as 11 members of the National Academy of Science. Texas A&M has participated in more than 500 research projects in more than 80 countries. Home to the George Bush Presidential Library, the main campus is one of the largest in the United States, spanning 5,200 acres. Texas A&M has over 1,000 student organizations to get involved with and around 88% of students will participate in a campus organization during their stay. In College Station, the summers are hot and oppressive; the winters are short, cold, and wet; and it is partly cloudy year round, so bring clothing suitable all weather conditions.

It will not be possible to complete a year abroad at this University if you have any assessments, such as supplementary or deferred exams, during the August assessment period at Swansea University.

Who can study here?

Swansea has a ‘university-wide’ partnership with this university which means that it is open to all subject areas except for Criminology, Social Policy, Law, Economics, Law or Psychology.
Places are also limited for Business and Engineering.
Spaces are not guaranteed, can be limited and all students on a semester/year abroad programme are subject to a university-wide, competitive selection process.

Important information

ACADEMIC YEAR: Runs August to May

COSTS: The cost of living will vary depending on your chosen accommodation and your lifestyle. TAMU estimate expenses for students in their downloadable factsheet.

VISAS: You will need a J-1 exchange visa. Students will receive a UIN (university identification number) and will create a TAMU NetID and password. Once the above items are complete, students will then receive instructions for the DS-2019 visa processing application through the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) Office.
To apply for a visa, you will need to pay a SEVIS fee of approx $220 plus an appliction fee of approx $185. In addition, you should factor in the cost of attending a visa interview at the US Embassy (typically in London). More information is available on the US Embassy website: https://uk.usembassy.gov/applying-f-1-j-1-visa/

ACCOMMODATION: Accommodation is available, but not guaranteed. For on-campus residence hall options and costs, review the following website: http://reslife.tamu.edu. Students on exchange for fall only will have to enter a contract for the academic year (fall and spring). They will be released from the spring obligation if their exchange term is only for the fall semester. Exchange students can elect to live off-campus, but are responsible for locating off-campus housing themselves. Students should only enter a lease term that corresponds to their exchange term. Students have the option to select and purchase a variety of meal plans: https://dineoncampus.com/tamu

HEALTH INSURANCE: Exchange students are automatically enrolled in the international student health insurance each semester. The charge is billed to your student account and payment is due upon arrival. Please refer to the following website for health insurance information, requirements, and costs: https://global.tamu.edu/isss/health-and-safety/health-insurance

IMMUNISATIONS: You need to provide evidence of a bacterial meningitis vaccination. If you had a Bacterial Meningitis vaccination more than 5 years before the day you will begin your studies at Texas A&M, you will need to have a Bacterial Meningitis booster vaccination. This is not standard on the NHS and so you may need to get this done privately at a cost. Until you have evidence of this booster vaccination, Texas A&M will not be able to accept your application so you must take this into consideration.
Depending on your country of birth or residence, you may also need to provide evidence of a TB vaccination.
