Hannah spent 1 academic year (2014-2015) studying at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, as part of her American Studies degree at Swansea University. Here are some of the comments she made about her experience:

"My year abroad at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington was awesome! I met great friends and travelled to many places"

"My aim was to return a more confident and independent person and I feel like I have achieved this. I threw myself into college life, attending basketball games, making s’mores and throwing a ‘Friendsgiving’ with my flat mates. I made wonderful friends who I hope to stay in touch with. I have convinced two of them, to spend their semester abroad at Swansea"

Challenges

"One of my biggest challenges while abroad was missing not only my family and friends, but also the beauty of the Welsh countryside, the language and the people. My year abroad has definitely given me a travel bug but it has also taught me to appreciate my home, that is the South Wales Valleys."

 

 

Biggest Highlights

"one of my best experiences was being twirled around and dancing to a live BlueGrass band..."

"along with two other friends I attended a backpacking trip to Cumberland Island in Georgia. This trip was definitely the highlight of my year, we hiked across the island and back in four days.I was lucky enough to witness wild horses, dolphins at sunrise, stargazing through the Spanish moss at night, and giggles as a gaze of racoons dragged away someone’s backpack and ate all of their snacks."
