Femi's Experience

Femi studied abroad at Trent University, in Canada, as part of his Law degree at Swansea University.

At first it was a bit of a culture shock coming from Swansea to Canda, but that quickly faded as all the lovely people at Trent helped me to settle in. I've been able to be a part of some lovely experiences such as the Head of Trent event, trips to downtown Toronto as well as a trip to Niagra falls. I've made some wonderful friends for life and I can't wait to see what else this experience has in store.

Mirnalleni's experience

As part of her Law degree at Swansea, Mirnalleni studied at HKU for a year.

I have had opportunities given to me at HKU that I would have had to fight for anywhere else. For example, for one of my modules I worked with a law firm writing up case memos, and researching and aiding with ongoing cases. Surprisingly, English is very widely spoken, with almost all signs including it. People were lovely, transport is immaculate and food is like no other – dim sum, egg tarts, milk tea – all a must-try in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is the central hub for Asia, having efficient flight connections between multiple countries. I have had the opportunity to visit Japan and Thailand! It is safe to say that my experience in Hong Kong has been nothing but amazing!

Nicole in Busan

Nicole's Experience

Nicole spent a year studying in Busan, South Korea as part of her English Language degree at Swansea.

"Studying abroad in South Korea has been an enriching experience, both academically and personally. These experiences have deepened my understanding of Korean history and provided unique perspectives that have influenced my academic work in ways I wouldn’t have gained back home. I’ve formed lasting bonds with students from places like Japan, Germany, and Morocco, and we’ve supported each other through the challenges of adjusting to life in a country where we don’t speak the language. This cultural immersion has not only enriched my studies but also equipped me with the skills to approach my work from a broader global viewpoint, which will be invaluable in my future career."

Melsiye's Experience

Melsiye spent a year studying abroad at Carleton University in Canada as part of her Criminology degree.

My time at Carleton has been unlike anything I’ve experienced. I’ve had the chance to visit amazing places and meet incredible new people. I’ve explored Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, and everything Ottawa has to offer. I was initially nervous about moving abroad but I’ve been able to travel, make new friends, and grow in ways I never imagined.

Oscar's Experience

Oscar studied for a semester at the University of Oklahoma, USA as part of his History and Medieval Studies degree.

Some highlights included being part of the international/local student group and being able to go to all the different college sports games that were held on campus. At the end of my studies, I went on a 2000-mile road trip where I visited several famous places throughout the country like the Grand Canyon, the original Route 66, Las Vegas, Death Valley and Los Angeles, making some incredible memories along the way.

Mateo's Experience

Mateo spent a year at Universidad Pontificia Comillas as part of his Spanish Translation degree at Swansea

It will probably be the most social year of my life. Students abroad are very welcoming to international students. Some highlights from my time abroad were going to a festival in the mountains in Valencia, running the Madrid half marathon, going to a beautiful outdoor pool every day after class, and watching the Champions League final in a bar in Madrid.

Sian's experience

Sian, a Law student, spent four weeks in Busan learning about South Korean culture over her Summer.

Busan was a life changing experience; from the incredible people I met, to the ability to experience a culture which I've admired for a long time, I would do anything to revisit.  I got to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity. We learnt culinary skills, completed Korean language exams, culture trips, and even got to go on a private boat tour. I think going to PNU will forever be one of my favourite memories.

Rudy's Experience

Rudy studied at Concordia for a year as part of his Economics degree in Swansea.

I had an amazing time abroad in Montreal Canada. The city is a beautiful mix of North American high rise buildings with a twist of French architecture especially in the French old port (vieux port) area. I was also lucky enough to travel all over Canada while studying there, from Niagara Falls to Lake Louise and to Mont Tremblant. It is an amazing and expansive country with endless places to visit!

Edivania's experience

Edivania spent a year studying abroad at Grenoble Alpes University, France as part of her Modern languages degree.

Grenoble has been a dream! Currently having the best time of my life and forever grateful that I am able to take part in a programme like this especially after such difficult times. Can’t wait to explore more of France and just embrace more of my life abroad!

Piers' Experience

Piers spent a year studying at Colorado State University as part of his American Studies degree.

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I was welcomed with open arms by every person I met. I'm grateful for the help I received from Swansea’s Go Global team and CSU for making the transition from Wales to Colorado so seamless. The exchange program is a fantastic opportunity for anyone, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Helena's Experience

Helena spent a year abroad studying at Dalhousie University as part of her Accounting and Finance degree.

My experience was everything I thought and more. I met loads of new people and got to go on many different trips both close to Dalhousie and further afield such as Niagara Falls. It helped me gain confidence, improved my communication skills and allowed me to become more adaptable as I experienced a different style of teaching. I couldn’t recommend studying abroad more highly and wish I could do it all over again!

Ivana's Experience

Ivana spent the first semester of her year abroad studying at University of Mons, Belgium as part of her Translation degree

Apart from becoming highly addicted to delicious Belgian waffles and chips, I've met some amazing Erasmus students from all around the world,  as well as friendly and welcoming Mons locals. Living in a francophone part of Belgium (Wallonia) has allowed me to travel anywhere in Europe easily and has helped me improve my French on a daily basis.

Dominica's Experience

Dominica Khoo studied at Texas A&M University, USA for a semester as part of her engineering degree

My semester in Texas definitely made me more adaptable in ‘foreign’ environments. No matter where I go I felt instantly at home. It has developed my personal flexibility, ability to reach compromise, focus and succeed through challenging times. The experience allowed me to mature and develop social poise, and to confront challenges outside my familiar support network and comfort zone.

Molly's Experience

Molly spent a year studying at NTU in Singapore as part of her Psychology degree at Swansea.

"Despite its size, Singapore is a country that simply oozes life and purpose. And during my time in Singapore, I've been blessed with countless incredible experiences. I've befriended elephants in Thailand, celebrated Deepavali in the heart of Little India, rode motorbikes across Vietnam, and lit fireworks in Malaysia for Chinese New Year. I've tasted every dish, attempted every language, embraced it all—every moment, every culture, every story—completely. MAJULAH SINGAPURA!"

Sasha's Experience

During her Biosciences Marine Biology degree at Swansea, Sasha spent four weeks of her summer volunteering with Think Pacific in Fiji.

I immersed myself in a new culture with weekly kava sessions and lovo (an earth-oven pit in the ground used to heat and bake food). I lived alongside people with different ways of life, and contributed to a community that was vastly different from my own. This journey of service and self-discovery left a lasting impact on both myself and the community. It is an experience that will stick with me for many years to come.

Leah's Experience

Leah, who studies psychology at Swansea, is spending her year abroad in Aarhus, Denmark.

I am having such a great time here in Denmark - time has flown by. It has been interesting noticing how different the culture is here. It is full of happiness and joy. Everywhere is kept so clean, they focus on physical and mental wellbeing a lot (great for my Psychology!). Also, everything starts super early which is great because you can get a lot done on a fresh new day!

"As a student at Hong Kong Baptist University, my year abroad in Hong Kong has been a transformative experience that has significantly enriched both my academic and personal growth. During my time abroad, I have expanded my horizons by exploring many different cultures such as visiting Korea, India, mainland China and Vietnam.
