Jess Smith
Jess Smith is a PhD student affiliated with the Military Gambling Research Centre (MilGAM) at Swansea University.
Jess’ project focuses on “understanding the lived experience of service personnel, veterans and affected others coping with harm from gambling.” Under the supervision of Simon Dymond and Jamie Torrance, Jess’ project began in January 2024 after conducting thorough reviews of existing research and delving deeper into the topic.
During Jess’ PhD, she will aid and support other projects to contribute to the research efforts across all areas of the centre’s work.
Simon Wright
Simon Wright is a PhD student affiliated with the Military Gambling Research Centre (MilGAM) at Swansea University.
Simon’s project focuses on digital intervention for disordered gambling and associated issues in military populations. Under the supervision of Simon Dymond and Martyn Quigley, Simon’s project began in January 2024 after reviewing and synthesizing literature on his PhD topic.
Simon plans to support other projects within the MilGAM before embarking on his own projects in months to come.
Chelsea Hughes
Chelsea is a Swansea Bay City Deal Digital Infrastructure-funded PhD student at Swansea University.
Chelsea’s project focusses on designing and evaluating virtual reality-based exposure therapies to understand and treat gambling disorder. Under the supervision of Simon Dymond, Jamie Torrance and Martyn Quigley, Chelsea’s project begins in January 2025.
Chelsea will work in collaboration with Imersifi (innovative virtual reality application developers) and academic partners throughout the project.
Jack McGarrigle
Jack's project is focused on "The identification and impact of dark patterns in online gambling", under the supervision of Simon, Jamie, and Martyn. The funder is the Welsh Graduate School for the Social Sciences (WGSSS).
