TASM 2019 at Swansea University
#TASMConf 2019 took place on 25-26 June, with 236 registered delegates from 23 countries across the world. The delegates included researchers from a range of academic disciplines and a large number of non-academic stakeholders, including representatives from the U.K. Home Office and Foreign & Commonwealth Office, London Metropolitan Police, Facebook, Twitter, Google, the U.S Department of Homeland Security and NATO StratCom COE.
Over the two days participants were able to select from 25 different breakout panels, featuring a total of 74 speakers, covering a wide range of different topics. Copies of the abstracts, key takeaways and slide shows are available below.
The keynote session featured presentations from JM Berger (VOX-Pol Research Fellow and Swansea University PhD student) and Dr Krisztina Huszti-Orban (Senior Legal Advisor to the UN Special Rapporteur on Counterterrorism and Human Rights). Recordings of their presentations are available here.
The conference concluded with the session “In conversation with the GIFCT”, which featured William McCants (Google’s global public policy lead for hate speech and terrorism), Dr Erin Marie Saltman (Facebook’s Policy Manager overseeing counterterrorism and counter-extremism efforts in Europe, the Middle East and Africa) and Adam Hadley (Founder and Director of Tech Against Terrorism).
