Abdul Fahl (Dubai)

After finishing my course, I started my professional career as an Insurance and Claims Manager for one of Britain’s oldest shipping lines, MacAndrews & Co Ltd., before joining TT Club London as a Senior Claims Executive looking after liability and property damage claims for Club members in the Eastern Mediterranean, Turkey, North Africa, and Southern Europe.

In 2020 I relocated to TT Club’s office in Dubai as a director leading the Club’s business development operation in the Middle East and Africa. My focus has been on the ports and terminals, freight forwarding, multimodal logistics and container shipping industries.

Divisha Bopana (India)

Divisha graduated from Swansea in 2008 with an LLM in International Commercial Law. After returning to India, she worked in a small size law firm in New Delhi as an in-house lawyer dealing with corporate commercial matters. She then moved to a popular Indian media house called TV Today Network Limited as an in-house lawyer dealing with contentious and non-contentious commercial matters. She is now working at PUMA and has taken on a broader corporate legal role there. She found her Swansea experience very rewarding and is particularly grateful to late Dr Nikaki for her invaluable advice and support.

Jiaoyang Li (China)

Having obtained my LLM degree with near distinction in International Maritime Law in 2018, I came back to Dalian Maritime University in China and finished the final year of my second master's degree in Maritime Law. After that, I worked as an intern in Dentons (Shanghai Office) and focus on the cases concerning shipping law practice, bill of lading disputes and marine insurance.

In April 2019, I moved to Sunline International Logistics Co. Ltd, which is the prominent company providing logistics plan, logistics operations and service to customers in engineering, oil and gas, and mining industries. I am responsible for the whole-process risk control and giving legal advice to customers.

Aozhuo Cui (China)

Aozhuo holds a bachelor’s degree from Heilongjiang University. She then completed her LLM in International Commercial and Maritime Law at Swansea University in 2017, graduating with a Merit.

She joined the Chinese headquarters of C.H. Robinson (a leading American third party logistics company) in December 2017, working as a Legal Assistant in their Legal Department where she works closely with freight forwarders (e.g. NVOCC), shippers, shipping companies, etc. In addition, she also deals with various issues regarding carriage of goods by sea, air, land, road, truck and multi-modal transportation. She also handles company secretary matters on some occasions.

Ellie Hu (Hanxin Hu) (China)

Ellie (Minty) Hu, an LLM student from the class of 2016, qualified as a PRC lawyer this March. She works at Sloma & Co., one of the top Chinese law firms specializing in the fields of international shipping and maritime law, having obtained the position after her graduation.

She is involved in handling maritime claims and affairs, including collision, cargo claims, marine insurance matters, charterparty disputes, etc. Recently, she participated in an arbitration seated in London and obtained satisfactory outcome, she also engaged in the handling a complicated case of national carriage of goods, involving salvage, GA issues, cargo claims, limitation of liability and marine insurance issues, etc. She also regularly takes part in various international maritime conferences.  

Amanpreet Singh Gosal (India)

Amanpreet completed his LLM in International Maritime Law in 2012. He is currently working in HP Law Advocates. HP Law is a full service Indian law firm that is truly international in vision, scope, experience and capability. The firm represents major international corporations, insurers and reinsurers, investment banks and other financial institutions, airlines and trading houses. 

Shevan Anthony Algama (Sri Lanka)

Shevan obtained his LLM International Commercial and Maritime Law in 2011. Following an internship he secured at the LLM Career’s Fair, he is now employed as Claims Handler at the Ship owners’ Club, a leading marine liability insurer offering P&I, Legal Assistance and Defence cover and associated insurance to small and specialist vessel owners across the world.

Yu Zheng (China)

Yu completed her LLM in International Maritime and Commercial Law in 2013. She is currently working at Maersk Line, the world’s largest container ship operator, as Consultant. She works closely with shippers/consignees and global forwarders to arrange contracts for the carriage of goods by sea worldwide. Yu also deals with various international trade and transportation law issues, including  cargo claims and insurance matters .

Qiu Yuhao (China)

Qiu obtained an LLM in International Maritime Law in 2010. Soon after his graduation he started working as a lawyer at Wang Jing & Co., a leading maritime law firm which was recently awarded the Best Shipping Law Firm of the Year at annual ALB Law Awards 2016. He deals with cases involving shipping, insurance and  international trade law issues.

Jianya Xu (China)

Jianya graduated with an LLM in Intellectual Property and Commercial Practice in 2014. she  is working for Zhejiang T&C Law firm, the top 1 law firm in Zhejiang Province in China, as  IP lawyer. Her practice focuses on copyright matters, especially related to films and television, music and other works. She also is interested in cultural exchange and IP cooperation between UK and China. In the course of her LLM at Swansea, Jianya worked towards establishing a formal relationship between Zhejiang T&C and Capital Law in Cardiff.

Rasvanvalai Vanno (Thailand)

James Tian (China)

James completed his LLM in International Maritime Law in 2011. James took employment as Claims Handler at the London P&I Club, dealing with both P&I and FD&D claims on behalf of the Club's Far Eastern membership. In October 2015, James moved to Hapag-Lloyd AG offices in Singapore-the company’s headquarter in Asia. Since then, James has been working in the company’s Corporate Insurance Risk Management team as Manager, overlooking/handling all China (including Taiwan) related (P&I/FD&D) claims.

Mudit Singh (India)

After successful completion of the LLM in International Maritime Law (with distinction) in 2007, Mudit worked for a commercial P&I insurer as a Claims Executive for 4 years. He then moved to work as a Claims Handler at The Shipowners' Protection Ltd. He also qualified as a Solicitor in England & Wales and his current job responsibilities include the day to day handling of P&I claims with focus on cargo liabilities, personal injuries, Admiralty and casualty (collision and FFO) incidents as well as liabilities arising under different towage contracts. He also handles FD&D claims for members from Turkey, Greece and Cyprus in addition to Russia, Ukraine and other European countries.

Zaid Sayed (Jordan)

Zaid is a Jordanian registered lawyer since 2005. Having completed his LLM degree in International Commercial and Maritime Law in 2009, Zaid was appointed as Contracts Manager for the Arab Bank in 2010. He then moved to Mashreq Bank (UAE) to work as Legal Manager (Assistant Vice President). Zaid is currently employed in MetLife as Legal Counsel for the Gulf Countries. Metlife is one of the largest life insurance companies in the world serving approximately 100 million customers. He is assigned with the task of ensuring the compliance of the company’s activities with the laws of UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait. He also provides legal consultation to the various departments within the company on insurance and other related issues.

Siddharth Mahajan (India)

Siddharth obtained his LLM in International Maritime Law (with distinction) in 2015, following which he started working as a DPA for a tanker owner in Thailand where he was in charge of ISM and TMSA related matters. After spending nearly three years there, he joined the Loss Prevention team of GARD AS, a leading marine insurance provider. He is currently based in Singapore and looks after the Asia portfolio. His role entails writing articles, conducting causation analysis of claims, providing technical advice, assessing suitability of vessels for cover, and serving members and clients through workshops, seminars and internal reviews. Occasionally he also writes for Nautical Institute’s Seaways publication.

Munhak Pahk (South Korea)

Mun completed his LLM in International Maritime Law in 2015. Before the completion of his LLM degree, he undertook internships with international maritime law firms in London (Stephenson Harwood, Mays & Brown Solicitors, Tatham Macinnes LLP) and Newcastle (Mills & Co). He is currently working as senior lawyer at Sejin LLC, a law firm based in Busan. In his practice, Mun deals with maritime and international trade law cases. He is also working for Korea Shipping Association (KSA), a Korean P&I club for domestic shipowners. In addition, just after returning to South Korea, he has been invited to participate in a committee established by the Busan Bar Association which investigates the need of a separate maritime court in South Korea.

Norazimah Mazlan (Malaysia)

Norazimah completed her LLM in International Maritime Law in 2013. After her graduation,she worked as Claims Executive at Total Marine & Claims Services, specialising in port and terminal operator liability claims. She is now a lecturer at the Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technologies (NMIT),Malaysia, where she teaches Marine Insurance and Carriage of Goods by Sea.

Belinda Lou (China)

Belinda completed her LLM in International Maritime Law in 2011. She is currently a GM Assistant of CapitalBulkCarrier (HK) Ltd, a Shipowning and Operations company, which provides chartering and transportation services. Belinda is involved in both the legal and commercial aspects of company operations, specifically, she provides legal advice on risk prevention and management - mainly about CP clauses. She also arranges insurance for both shipowners and charterers, and takes part in arbitration proceedings. In addition, she participates in important projects, her main focus being the development of new international business and maintenance of client relations.

Shirley Liu (China)

Shirley obtained her LLM in International Maritime Law in 2009. She is a Senior Partner at Globe-Law law firm, a comprehensive large-scale partnership law firm. Her practice focuses on maritime, admiralty and international trade cases. She has assisted a number of large domestic and foreign shipping companies, P&I clubs, trade companies, and ports in handling a variety of disputes, including disputes related to carriage of goods, ship building, ship collisions, oil pollution at sea, P&I insurance, construction of ports, and international sales of goods.

Yunlong Li (China)

Having obtained his LLM Degree in International Commercial and Maritime Law from Swansea University in 2007, Yunlong joined one of largest law firms in China, ALLBright Law Offices, located in Shanghai. Yunlong is currently partner at ALLBright Law Offices. His practice areas include corporate investment, securities and capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganization, and dispute resolution. Yunlong has vast experience in providing comprehensive legal services for investing in and financing enterprises and large-scale real property construction projects, including corporate acquisitions and reorganizations, joint-stock restructuring, public offerings, bond issuances, restructuring and refinancing of listed companies, private equity investment as well as financing, construction, operation and the transfer of large real estate projects.

Le Li (China)

Le graduated in 2008. She holds an LLM in International Commercial and Maritime Law. She is currently working in the President's Office of Huaxin Insurance Brokers Co. Ltd, in Beijing.

Shengyi Jiang (China)

Shengyi completed his LLM in International Maritime Law in 2012. He is currently employed as Shipping Executive at COSCO SOUTH EAST ASIA Ltd. in Singapore. His job at COSCO entails monitoring vessels and cargo on container line service. While studying at Swansea, he also had the chance to attend an internship with Holman Fenwick Willan LLP and Willis, one of the world's largest professional services firms specializing in insurance brokerage and risk management, which enhanced his practical understanding of shipping and insurance  law.

Qin He (China)

Qin obtained an LLM in International Maritime Law in 2008. He is currently employed at COSCO International Freight Co. Ltd.

Richard Zhang (China)

Richard Zhang is an associate lawyer of Bing Wen Law Firm, LL.M. of Swansea University, and B. A. of East China University of Political Science and Law. In the past years Richard had worked as a paralegal / legal translator in Wang Jing & Co. Shanghai Office which is one of the top shipping law firm in China, and as an in-house legal consultant in PPM International (London) Limited. Richard's practice area majors in security law, capital market, M&A, PE & VC, and restructuring of enterprises, etc. The projects in which Richard has serviced mainly include:

1. PE/VC Investment: offering legal services in establishment, investment management and/or exit of various Private Equity / Venture Capital;

2. Company restructuring, mergers and acquisitions: offering legal services in merger and investment of several companies, especially in angel round and pre-A round investment for SMEs;

3. Acting as special legal advisor to offer legal services for well-known large and medium-size clients, including Phicomm and its affiliated companies, and independently carrying out due diligence investigation for major asset restructuring of Huasu Holding Co. Ltd., a listed company with the stock code 000509;

4. Acting as retaining legal advisor of some SMEs, including Infinity Digital Co., Ltd., Touchstone International Medical Science Co., Ltd. and Beijing Bezenith Energy Technology Co.

Vincent Zhang (China)

Vincent graduated from Swansea University in 2011 with a Merit and moved onto to join the Ince & Co.  Hong Kong office in the same year. He deals with both contentious and non-contentious matters, focussing mainly on issues related to both dry and wet shipping, trade, and (re)insurance.

Vincent speaks native Mandarin and Shanghainese, as well as fluent English and Cantonese.

Hamid Roodbari (Iran)

After graduating from Swansea University, I started my MBA (Master of Business Administration) at The University of Sheffield. Working hard there, I graduated with high merit in the programme (69.3) and distinction in my dissertation (75). Coming back to my home country of Iran, I started to work as the Chief Executive Director of Pishgam Industrial Designers Company, an organisation in the oil and gas field specialising in the manufacture of ball valves. At the same time, I was invited to work with the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture as a consultant. I also cooperate with shipping companies and insurance companies in Iran dealing with their management, technical and legal issues. Since I am passionate about learning, I recently started my DBA (Doctor of Business Administration) at the University of Tehran.

Mayank Suri (India)

After graduating from Swansea I have been retained by one of India's premiere shipping law practices, handling cases which relate to charterparty/bills of lading disputes, environmental pollution and marine insurance. In my current role I am being able to employ all the knowledge that I gained during my LLM. As India also follows the common law system, a lot of what I learned at Swansea is relevant here. In addition, giving advice to ship owners and charterers based on practical aspects of their disputes is exposing me to a very new and dynamic world of maritime trade where things move rather quickly!
