You can borrow items from the library without making a request first if you prefer. Feel free to browse the shelves and use the self-service machines to borrow your chosen books and other library resources.

Alternatively, the library offers a Request and Collect service to provide our students and staff with easy options to borrowing physical library items such as books. We also have a growing collection of e-resources which you can browse and borrow for free!

Requesting items

Library items may be requested via iFind and you can choose which of our libraries you would like to collect them from.

You must be logged into iFind for the request option to be available to you. Once you have logged in, search for the item you require. Once you have found the item in the listed results, click on the title to open the full record. If the item is eligible then you will be able to request the item and choose your preferred location for collection.

Please contact the MyUni Library team if you need any further help with placing requests or accessing library materials.

Collecting items

Provided a copy of your requested item is available on the shelf at one of our libraries (i.e. not out on loan or being used in the library), it will be made available for collection from your chosen library. If all copies of the item are currently on loan or reserved for other borrowers, the next available copy will be reserved for you to collect at your chosen pick-up location when returned by the current borrower.

You will receive an email notification to advise when your requested item is on the Collection Shelf at your chosen library. This email contains an identifying collection reference code which you will need to find your item on the Request and Collect shelves.

The email will also confirm which library your item is available for collection from. Please check that this is the location you expect before travelling to the library. The email will also tell you the expiry date for collecting the item.

When you have found your requested item on the Request and Collect shelves, you must issue it to your account via the self-service machines before leaving the library.

Don’t forget to bring your university ID card and collection reference code to the library!

Returning Items

You can return requested items to any of our libraries via our self-service returns’ machines/ bins. Return items to the location that is most convenient for you!

Please ensure you return items by the due date so that other library users can benefit from the request and collect service too!

If you need help with any aspect of this service, please contact the MyUni Library team.
