Meet Henry Spencer a 2nd year Marine Biology student at Swansea University and a keen runner and triathlete!

We chat to Henry about his training journey and why he is running for Team Swansea.

Why did you want to run Swansea Half Marathon?

Mental Health is extremely important to me, so I wanted to help Swansea University raise money for Making Strides. But also, to test myself and see where my fitness is at 1 month prior to Ironman 70.3 Swansea.

What does it mean to you personally?

Exercise is a way of clearing my head, and running the Swansea Half and raising money is a way for me to support people who are unable to help themselves.

Tell us why better mental health is important to you.

Better mental health is extremely important to me – I want to be the best version of myself and if I can raise money for people to feel the same then it’s a win win!

Tell us about how you’ll be training in the run up to the race.

I am passionate about fitness, so I take my training very seriously - a mixture of long easy runs, hard short intervals, long bike rides and swims, and once a week strength and conditioning to prevent injury.

How do you stay motivated throughout your training, especially on tough days?

Music helps me get through it all and chasing the feeling of fulfilment that I get whenever I complete one of my training sessions.

Do you have a personal goal for this race, whether it’s time-based or just completing it?

I would like to beat my time last year of 1:25:56! And have enough energy left at the end to properly celebrate.
