About our Departmental Scholarships

The Mathematics Department of Swansea University offers Mathematics prizes/scholarships worth up to a total of £3000 for students starting their university studies in September 2026. The prizes will be awarded on the basis of a competitive two-and-a-half-hour examination which will be taken on 4th March 2026. Usually, applicants take the exam in their school or college, but this year arrangements will be made to enable applicants to sit the exam remotely. Applications are open to home students that have made any undergraduate course from the Mathematics department at Swansea one of your UCAS selections.

These scholarships can be used in conjunction with our Excellence and Merit scholarships.

If you are interested in taking the scholarship exam, then you should complete and return a Maths Scholarship Exam Application form 2026 to us via email.

You can download the 2025 past examination paper here: Maths Scholarship Exam Paper 2025.

Note: The University will also award Excellence Bursaries worth £3,000 to students who achieve AAA at A-level (or equivalent) and £2000 to students who achieve AAB at A-level (or equivalent).  For further details please see https://www.swansea.ac.uk/undergraduate/scholarships/excellence-bursaries/

Receiving this mathematics scholarship has given me the confidence needed to transition from college to studying maths at Swansea University. I have gained experience and knowledge from this scholarship test which will help me with challenging questions in the future. The few weeks I have been here, I have enjoyed immensely thanks to the friendly mathematics department and community at Swansea.

Bailey Weng, Desborough College, Maidenhead

Being able to study through the Mathematics Scholarship has given me a clearer and more confident experience than I previously thought.

As a person who is generally lacking confidence, succeeding in the exam has allowed me to express my true passion for the subject; something I won't ever regret taking. As I delve deeper into the world of mathematics, the financial and educational support from the incredible team at the Mathematics department shows no limit.

This will be something I will remember right past my time here at Swansea and would highly recommend for anyone wishing to pursue this programme.

"Being awarded the scholarship has made the transition to University a far more positive experience than expected. Succeeding in the exam has shown me that Mathematics is truly what I wanted to study. The financial boost has allowed me to take up residence on campus which makes attending lectures much less stressful, allowing me to fully engage with my lectures. Now that I have been studying in Swansea for the past 2 months, I can honestly say It has been the best thing I have ever done. I cannot thank the Maths department enough for providing me with this opportunity".
