Student Parking FAQs

We advise all students to choose active and sustainable forms of travel to campus wherever possible. If you can walk or cycle, we encourage you to do so – it's affordable, sustainable and good for your health and wellbeing. For those living further afield, we recommend you use public transport. We don’t advise students to bring their cars to university as parking on campus and in and around the city is limited. For those who do have to drive, information about parking near to campus is available online .

Parking on campus during core hours (8am – 4pm Monday to Friday) is reserved for University permit holders only.

If you have an out of hours permit (available for £30 per annum), you can park out of hours on Singleton Campus and Bay Studios between 4pm and 8am Monday to Friday and on weekends, from 4pm Friday until 8am Monday. You don’t have to pay to park; your out of hours permit covers this.

If you don’t have an out of hours permit, you can park on Singleton Campus after 4pm and until 8am the next morning during weekdays, and from 4pm Friday until 8am Monday, provided you pay to park using the app or parking meters. Parking at the Bay Studios Car Park is permit holders only 24/7.

Those with other valid permits (e.g. those meeting certain medical criteria or requiring reasonable adjustments) may be granted vehicle access to campus during core hours and should refer to their permit conditions of issue.

Please note that a parking ticket will be issued if your vehicle is brought to Singleton campus or Bay Studios or left on Singleton campus or Bay Studios between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday, even if you have paid to park. The ANPR cameras installed on campus will pick up that the vehicle is not authorised to be on site during the hours of 8am – 4pm Monday to Friday.

Your out of hours permit entitles you to park on Singleton Campus or Bay Studios free of charge between the hours of 4pm and 8am Monday to Friday and 4pm Friday to 8am Monday.

Your vehicle will need to be moved off Singleton Campus or Bay Studios before 8am each day (Monday to Friday) and cannot return until after 4pm. A parking ticket will be issued if the vehicle is brought to Singleton Campus or Bay Studios between those times, even if you have paid to park, as the ANPR cameras will pick up that the vehicle is not authorised during the hours of 8am – 4pm (Monday to Friday).

No you don’t need to pay to park on top of your out of hours permit which, for a cost of £30 per annum, allows you to park on Singleton campus or Bay Studios after 4pm and until 8am the next morning and over weekends.

You can apply for an out of hours permit here Travelling by Car - Swansea University at any time during your academic year, but the out of hours permit fee of £30 will not be pro ratad.

Applications for Out of Hours permits open in September each year and expire on 30th September the following year.

No, if you have a permit which entitles you to park on campus, you do not need to pay to park on top of that.

You don’t need to display a ticket because some methods of payment won’t generate a pay and display ticket.

Parking charge notices will be issued for a number of reasons including:

• Parking on campus (and Bay Studios) without a valid permit between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday. this applies even if you have paid to park as you must be in possession of a permit to park on Singleton campus and Bay Studios during core hours on weekdays.
• Parking on Singleton campus and not paying to park during the evenings and on weekends, unless you have a valid out of hours permit. (Parking at the Bay Studios car park is permit holders only 24/7)
• Not parking in a marked bay
• Overstaying your booking if you have paid to park

Yes. Please display your permit on the right hand side of your windscreen.

Cameras will be located at all entrance and exit points across both campus, and at various points across car parks.

We don’t encourage students to drive to campus but if you do have to drive, there are a number of designated car parks close to campus. These include:

• The Recreation Ground
• The Pub on the Pond
• Fabian Way Park and Ride

If parking off campus please use designated parking zones/facilities and always park considerately, safely and legally and be mindful of and respectful to our neighbours living in the local community.

Representations objecting to the issue of the Parking Charge Notice must be made within 28 days from the date of the Parking Charge Notice. Appeals should be made direct to Total Parking Solutions – they will respond to the appeal, involving the University’s Estates and Facilities Management Directorate where required.

Payments may be made by cheque or postal order to the address above. Please ensure that you write the ticket number and your address on the reverse of the cheque or postal order. Please do not attempt to pay Estates and Facilities staff, as they are not authorised to accept payment.

The land on which the Bay Campus staff car park is built is owned by a third party developer. Safety and security is a top priority for us, and as the Bay Campus car park requires significant investment and development work to ensure it meets the needs of our users, we have secured alternative provision adjacent to campus at Bay Studios. These facilities are level, tarmacked, well-marked and lit and covered by CCTV, and are just a short walk from campus.

At present we are unable to confirm any timelines but will keep you informed of progress and developments through regular communication and updates.

The current Bay Campus staff car park will close at midnight Wednesday 31st January. Please ensure you remove your vehicle well in advance of this time and date.

The Bay Studios car park is 500 spaces compared to 454 spaces on Bay Campus.

No, as per the conditions of the Out of Hours permit, it is not eligible for parking on at any University owned spaces during core hours (Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm)

Yes, as per the conditions of the Out of Hours permit, you can use it to park on campus or at the Bay Studios carpark outside of the core hours (Monday to Friday 4pm – 8am and Friday 4pm to Monday 8am)

Please utilise the dedicated Blue Badge bays on Bay Campus. These are located next to The College building and the Bay Library.

No, the Bay Studios is for permit holders only. You can find out more about permits for students on the University website here.

As outlined on the plan below, Eastbound traffic will be able to turn directly into the Bay studios car park off Fabian Way. On entering Bay Studios turn immediate left and follow the directional signage.

Westbound traffic from the M4 will be able to access the car park from Fordd amazon directly off the first roundabout from the M4. On entering Bay Studios directional signage will guide you to the car park.

The best way to exit the car park will be to use Fordd amazon to join either westbound or eastbound routes.

The Bay Campus is a short walk from the Bay Studios car park. Depending on your walking pace and allowing for pedestrian crossing times, the short walk will take approximately 10 -15 minutes on average to reach Bay Campus. You can see the advised walking route in the graphic below. Please don’t walk through business premises and utilise the designated crossing points indicated below.

The new Bay Studios car park which is well marked and lit will have 24/7 CCTV coverage, and which will feed directly to the Bay Campus Security Services team. The walking routes from the Bay Studios car park to Bay Campus are also well lit.
