After accepting your Postgrad study place

Keep checking the email account that you provided on your online application form.  We will be sending key information throughout the cycle regarding your offer of a place, scholarships, matriculation, enrolment, etc.

You should try to meet all the conditions of your offer by end of August if you are applying for entry in September. (This is particularly important for international students due to visa application deadlines.) This means that you will need to supply the required documentation demonstrating that you have met any outstanding conditions (e.g. academic requirements, English language and/or references) as detailed in your offer letter. We will send you a reminder prior to this deadline. Please email us your results.

Applicants for programmes offered by our Children and Young People department will require a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks. Please note that we will require the original copy of your disclosure certificate before you can be considered to have completed this condition and allowed to register with the University.

If you are unable to meet all the conditions outlined in our offer letter, or you wish for personal reasons not to take up our offer, you can request deferral to a later enrolment date.

When all the conditions of an offer have been fulfilled, your place can be formally ‘confirmed’ as unconditional.  Detailed information on enrolment, how to pay tuition fees, how to travel to Swansea (including details of our ‘meet and greet’ service for international students) and induction events for new postgraduates will be sent to you throughout September.

International applicants who complete the admissions process will be issued with instructions and a CAS number that they can use to apply for an adult student visa under Tier 4 of the Points Based System to study in the United Kingdom. Please note that it is the applicant’s responsibility to apply for their student visa at the relevant British Embassy or British High Commission. International applicants who have applied for programmes in certain science/engineering related subjects will also require an ATAS Clearance Certificate before applying for their student visa. Instructions on how to apply for an ATAS Clearance Certificate will be emailed to you after you receive your offer.

You are encouraged to contact the Postgraduate Admissions Office at any time during the application process if you have any questions. Please remember to quote your Swansea student number in all email correspondence.

Once you have an offer of a place, you can apply for University accommodation. You will need your 6 digit student number. A mixture of accommodation and housing options are available.  If you are applying for University halls of residence, please check which campus you will study and select carefully whether you apply for Park Campus or Bay Campus accommodation.  Please note most rooms are available for the 40-week academic year, but a number of postgraduate rooms are available for 51 weeks to suit the length of your study.

UK/EU Students

Tuition fees can be paid in full at enrolment, but we will also permit students to pay in 3 instalments (33% in November, 33% in February and 34% in May).

Please be aware that any scholarships or bursaries you may have been awarded do not count towards payment of your first instalment.

If you choose to take up the instalment option, you will be asked to submit a valid direct debit mandate at or before enrolment.  For more information, please see our How to Pay your Fees - UK postgraduate pages.

International Students

All international students must pay a deposit to secure their place and obtain a CAS statement. This deposit is refundable only in the event of the Government refusing to grant a UK visa, or a student failing to meet the University's entry requirements. This deposit will count towards the payment of tuition fees and is not an additional sum charged above the tuition fee quoted in offer letters.

The remainder of the Tuition fees can either be paid in full at or before enrolment or can be paid in two instalments. 50% of your tuition fee must be paid at or enrolment and the remaining 50% should be paid no later than February.

If you meet the exact terms of your offer your place will be confirmed as unconditional, normally within two working days from receipt of your results. Home/EU applicants will receive an email notifying them that their offer of a place has been confirmed and if required for official purposes, they can request an unconditional statement. All international students are issued with an unconditional statement once their results have been processed and place confirmed.

It is likely to take longer than two working days to make a decision on your application if you have NOT met the exact terms of your offer as your application will need to be reconsidered by the appropriate Admissions Selector.

Your application will receive reconsideration if you have missed the conditions of your offer and it may still be possible to confirm your place. You should, therefore, ensure that you attach your results to your Apply account as soon as they are available. Whether we will be able to confirm your place depends on how close to the conditions your results are, as well as the number of students who have met their conditions and, therefore, on how many places we have remaining.

If you need an ATAS Clearance Certificate, the Admissions Office will provide you with guidance on how to apply. (As candidates can only apply for ATAS clearance within 6 months of the start of their programme, we will send this information from April onwards, in the year of admission.  This will be sent to you separately to your offer letter, so keep checking your email!) You will need to apply for ATAS clearance before applying for your student visa. Please see the ATAS website for an application form and details of how to apply.

You must allow sufficient time for your University application to be considered and time for you to apply for ATAS clearance and your Tier 4 Visa. For example, if your course starts in September, applications should be received by 31 July at the latest.

If a government or company is paying your fees you should ask them for a letter confirming this. You would not normally have to pay a deposit if you are receiving financial support from an official sponsor or via a US Federal Loan. Unfortunately, we do not accept parents or family as sponsors and these are not acceptable for visa purposes.

Home/EU students - University guidelines limit the hours that its postgraduate students can work (currently 6 hours a week during term time).
