Course Overview

Our MA Creative Writing (Extended) degree offers both the benefits of our 1-year MA, where you will be trained in writing of literary and media text, with a period of study abroad at our partner US institution to further your writing skills and experience.

During your 2-years of study you will have teaching in a wide range of genres, including fiction, poetry, sci-fi, screenwriting and creative non-fiction, spending your time at Swansea forging personal links with the National Theatre Wales, the International Dyland Thomas Prize, The Cultural Institute and independent publishers and literary agents, and furthering your skills, experience and employability during your semester abroad at the University of Central Oklahoma.

Your Creative Writing (Extended) Experience

Throughout your studies you will develop the skills to unlock your imagination and creativity, honing the craft of storytelling and poetry, from narrative and voice, to form and structure.

Your studies at Swansea will include fiction, poetry, screenwriting, non-fiction, drama and publishing, along with hands-on workshops and guest lectures from the international world of art and publishing (via the Cultural Institute), and your semester at the University of Central Oklahoma will cover an additional 60 credits of teaching in areas such as writing comedy and satire, SciFi and fantasy, and writing for children.

Our Extended MA in Creative Writing equips you with the skills, knowledge and experience to engage with the creative industries, with the confidence to pitch your creative projects and present your work across multiple creative platforms. Your semester at the University of Central Oklahoma will further your creative writing skills, giving you experience of studying and living abroad, experiencing different cultures, broadening your horizons and enhancing your employability credentials.
