Become a Professional Linguist

Student in Language Lab

Course Overview

Our MA in Professional Translation is designed to turn linguists into skilled translators, with strong international career prospects.

Swansea University has a noted reputation for translation studies, welcoming students from around the world since the early 1990s and becoming one of only five UK-based founding members of the European Master’s in Translation Network (EMT) in 2009, set-up by the Directorate-General for Translation of the European Commission, to raise standards in the training of translators.

Both our 1-year course, and 2 year extended course, have been developed to comply with the Bologna pattern of Higher Education, and can be studied either full-time or part-time, with flexibility to allow you to complete the 2 year course in 15 months.

Our Extended 2-year course offers the opportunity to add specialisation credits to your degree, either through further study within the university, or through a semester abroad at one of our partner institutions. Further details of these opportunities are made available during the first year of study.

For students with native or high competence in English and French, we also offer a Double award in Professional Translation Université Grenoble-Alpes (UGA) in France.
