If you are a graduate working in a healthcare setting and looking to take your career to the next level, our MSc in Mental Health Nursing is for you.

Designed for non-registered healthcare practitioners, this two-year Master’s degree course will give you the skills and experience to launch a rewarding career in this essential profession.

Our MSc in Mental Health Nursing will give you the theoretical and practical knowledge you need to provide high quality, compassionate nursing care for improving mental health and well being.

During the course, you will improve the care and treatment of people using mental health services their carers and their families.

Please note, this course is not open to international students at this time.

Your Mental Health Nursing experience

Our excellent facilities in the School of Health and Social Care include a realistic clinical suite so you can put your theoretical knowledge into practice in an environment that reflects as closely as possible the actual conditions that you will experience when you go on placement in a hospital or community setting.

You will spend 40 weeks of your course on placement, gaining experience in a diverse range of nursing settings, including hospitals and the community.

You can also study part of your nursing Master’s degree through the medium of Welsh and may be eligible for internal scholarships or financial support through Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.

Mental Health Nursing career opportunities

On graduation, you will be eligible to apply for Registered Nurse (Mental Health) status with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and to register as a nurse for work in EU and EEA.

As your career develops you may choose to specialise in areas such as elderly care, crisis intervention or substance misuse. You could also become involved in education, research, or management roles.

You can expect a starting salary of £28,407 rising to £57,349 for a highly-experienced staff nurse. Specialist nurses and practice managers can earn £50,056.

This is a tightly structured course, comprising two compulsory modules in each year plus a dissertation in your second year.
