Psychology (Conversion), MSc

To be considered for this Masters degree you will need:

• An initial degree (a minimum of a 2.1) in any discipline to include grade C/4 in GCSE Maths or Swansea University recognised equivalent

• A well written and structured personal statement

• An academic reference

• If English is not your first language you will need to have a minimum of IELTS 7, with a minimum of 6.5 in all domains, or a University approved equivalent, prior to starting the programme.

Student learning is based on a blended learning approach and facilitated through a wide range of methods including lectures, online content, independent study, seminars, workshops, and masterclasses to enhance students academic, personal, and professional development.

The programme enables students to acquire a recognised qualification in psychology that confers eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society (BPS), which is the first step towards becoming a chartered psychologist. 

For the taught part of the programme you will undertake six 20 credit compulsory modules, two of which (Data Analysis and Research Process) are shared with other Postgraduate Taught programmes within the School of Psychology.

You will also complete a 60 credit supervised research project over the course of the programme.

Throughout the programme students will engage with research through exposure to published work, current research and through engaging in their own research, much of which will be informed by or have direct practice application.  

We are proud to provide an outstanding educational experience, using the most effective learning and teaching approaches, carefully tailored to suit the specific needs of your course. Apart from a small number of online-only courses, most of our courses consist of in-person, on-campus teaching.  

However, online learning may take place ‘live’ using software such as Zoom, allowing you to interact with the lecturer and other students. Lecture recordings also allow for more flexibility to revisit material and to revise for assessments. 

 

At least 40 credits

There are opportunities for Welsh speakers to study at least 40 credits of this postgraduate course through the medium of Welsh. Many University departments develop and offer Welsh medium or bilingual modules as part of their courses so you will need to discuss the possibilities with the relevant Programme Director. You can study a module or modules through the medium of Welsh where possible or submit your dissertation in Welsh with guidance from a subject specialist through the medium of Welsh.

Selection for the programme will be based on the written application, academic references and an interview.
