Your learning on the MSc Economics is shaped by an inclusive, research‑led approach that supports you as a developing economist. Teaching combines advanced lectures, research‑focused seminars and specialist computer workshops, giving you the chance to engage with economic theory, data analysis and contemporary policy questions in depth.

In seminars, you will discuss academic journal articles, replicate empirical studies and deliver short presentations. These activities help you evaluate different methodologies, challenge assumptions and bring together competing theoretical perspectives. Workshops will build your confidence with the tools used by professional economists, including econometric software and data‑driven research techniques.

Independent study is an important part of the programme. You will read academic literature, work with real datasets and develop your own research ideas. Throughout this process, you’ll receive structured support through formative feedback, research‑design guidance and methodological clinics, helping you progress toward confident and autonomous analytical practice.

Learning materials are provided in accessible digital formats and shared in advance so you can prepare for seminars and engage fully with complex material. Recorded lectures and technical walkthroughs support flexible study, particularly if you are transitioning into a new academic environment.

Collaborative learning is built around advanced problem‑solving and research tasks rather than introductory group work. You’ll be encouraged to bring examples and policy insights from your own experience or home country, enriching international and comparative discussion in the classroom.

Digital technologies are used not only to support access but to help you develop advanced technical competence. You will work with econometric software, data visualisation tools and reproducible research workflows, reflecting the practices used in both professional economics and academic research.

No Provision

Unfortunately, there is currently no formal Welsh-medium provision on this course. If you would like to let us know that you are interested in pursuing an element of your course through the medium of Welsh, please email astudio@abertawe.ac.uk to indicate your interest along with your year of entry and we will do our best to see what is possible.

Whilst this course does not offer academic content delivered in Welsh, the University can provide you with the following, and Academi Hywel Teifi is here to support you:

• An interview through the medium of Welsh when applying for a place.
• Personal correspondence in Welsh, English or bilingually.
• The opportunity to create and submit your coursework or sit your exams through the medium of Welsh (even if you have chosen to study in English), and your work will be assessed in Welsh.

• One-to-one support to improve your academic Welsh language skills.
• The opportunity to gain an additional free qualification that serves as evidence of your Welsh language ability for future employers.
