Who are Young carers?

A young adult carer is someone under the age of 25 who provides unpaid support to family and friends who could not manage without this help. This could be caring for a relative, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has a mental health or substance misuse problem.

Young carers have the opportunity to take part in activities designed to raise their educational aspirations and give them a taste of university life. These can be hosted on campus or at community venues such as youth clubs or schools. Activities include interactive workshops, campus tours, one-to-one visits, and opportunities to connect with university students who may have shared backgrounds.
