The University has continued its commitment to digitising its systems by introducing an online system for the ethical screening of all research undertaken by students, staff and visitors at the University.

The online research ethics assessment system, processes and monitors research ethics applications in accordance to University policies, and regulatory standards.
For Researchers, the system allows real-time collaboration with co-researchers by incorporating the changes and storing communications in one place.
For Ethics Reviewers, the system allows real-time tracking, comparing, and commenting on applications.
The online system lessens the burden on administration, is environmentally sustainable, and enables easier reporting.
Who is the system for?
The system is for the use of students, staff and visitors to the University who wish to gain an ethical approval of a research conducted.
Research with the NHS should be conducted in accordance with the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research (2017). Advice and guidance on how to secure an ethical approval for such research must be sought from researchgovernance@swansea.ac.uk
Ethical approval for research with the NHS patient and data requires an NHS ethics approval and applications for such research should be submitted via the IRAS system.
Research applications for requesting University sponsorship are assessed by a Sponsorship Oversight committee (SUSOC). Please contact researchgovernance@swansea.ac.uk for any queries and prior to submitting an ethics application into IRAS.
How to access the system?
The Research Ethics Form is accessed through your apps under the name ‘Research Ethics Applicant’. Go to https://myapplications.microsoft.com/
Either scroll to find it or type in the search bar. You will need to sign in using your university email and password.
Should I be using the Online system?
Each Faculty has produced a list of exceptions, and these are available in the FAQ section. If your research is in your Faculty exception list then you do not need to complete an ethical review via the online system.
