I attended the Swansea University Engineering Summer School, with this being my first time experiencing life on a university campus. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed by friendly staff and students who shared their experiences of engineering at Swansea Uni with me. My time at the Summer School consisted of attending workshops delivered by a range of university staff and getting to know other year 12 students who were looking to study engineering at university. Aside from viewing the facilities that Swansea had to offer, we were able to enjoy time at the beach and explore other areas of campus.
During the Summer School, we attended discipline-specific sessions that helped me understand the similarities and differences between the different engineering disciplines. This was extremely helpful as it enabled me to decide which type of engineering would suit me best when applying for university.
My time at the Summer School inspired me to study for a degree in engineering and the support given to me by staff was much appreciated. I was particularly interested in the medical engineering workshop and because of the people I met at the summer school, I was able to organise work experience in this field, which confirmed that this was the area of study that I wanted to pursue.
Fast forward four years and I am close to finishing my course and looking to graduate this summer from Swansea University with a BEng in Medical Engineering. I have loved my time in Swansea! It is amazing to look back over the last four years, at how much I have learned since I attended the Engineering Summer School. I would encourage anyone who is thinking of applying to give it a go and make the most of the opportunity!
