Research Excellence Framework 2021
Over 91% of Faculty of Science & Engineering submission to the assessment, over 8 units, was classed as either ‘internationally excellent’ or ‘world-leading’. This is the latest in a series of endorsements for the Faculty, which received a Queen’s Anniversary Prize earlier this year. The Faculty is extremely proud of the partnerships and collaborations that have led to their success and will be celebrating with the whole research community: technicians, Postgraduate Researchers, administrators, researchers, and librarians, who have made these achievements possible.
The Faculty has always prized itself on the real-world impacts of their research and so are delighted that 87% of their impact case studies have been assessed as ‘world-leading’ and internationally excellent 'by expert REF panellists, with our Maths colleagues achieving 100% world leading impact. The case studies, which describe partnerships with businesses, industry, public bodies and other academic partners from around the world, range from Tata Steel to the Law Society and have impacted the lives of hundreds of people globally. Speaking for the Faculty Professor Perumal Nithiarasu, said ‘This is a fantastic endorsement of the Faculty's vision to undertake research that has significant impacts on the lives of real people, in line with our ambition to make a difference, delivering significant, sustained, beneficial economic and societal impact in Wales, the UK and globally'. The Faculty’s research environment was assessed as over 93% world-leading or internationally excellent.
