One of the goals of the Centre for Research into Practice is to bring together resources to support research-informed, reflective practitioners. It also aims to make research accessible for busy practitioners, for example through jargon-free summaries, posters and infographics.
What works for care-experienced children’s educational outcomes?
A new resource has been published by Dr Emily Lowthian and colleagues exploring ‘What works for care-experienced children’s educational outcomes?’; this report uses data from over 1,000 children over 16 years to understand:
- Are there any common patterns in care-experiences?
- How do these relate to educational attainment at KS1, 2 and 4?
- What works in education for certain care-experiences in terms of GCSEs?
The report highlights some key aspects that may disrupt educational attainment, depending on specific care-experiences (i.e. early adoption vs. late childhood foster care). Policymakers and those working in related sectors should consider these results in relation to school policy and practice to support care-experienced young people reach their potential
There is a detailed report in both English and Cymraeg, along with a YouTube video on a recorded webinar with ExChange in CASCADE at Cardiff University. There also is a blog post which discusses wider work in this area.
