About

Ansgar is an Applied Microeconomist, who uses applied game theory, empirical Microeconomic methods and laboratory experiments in his research. His main field of interest is Law & Economics, i.e., the economic analysis of the incentive effects of laws. Topics that Ansgar has worked on include an enforcement agency's incentives to investigate cases and impose punishment, the optimal design of the legal procedure and the impact of tort law on a potential injurer's incentives to take precautions. Examples for other areas that he has worked in are health, education, public finance, bank regulation and industrial organisation. The real-world impact of his research ranges from citations in Westminster debates to an ongoing policy project for the Food Standards Agency.

Before joining Swansea, he worked at the Universities of Portsmouth, Bonn and Aachen, and outside academia at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

EC-2571 Economics of Contracts

Optimally negotiating and managing contracts is at heart of the success of any business. Insights from microeconomic theory can help business practitioners understand the strategic problems associated with contracting. This module will introduce two such theories, the Theory of Incomplete Contracts and the Screening model, and their applications to contract management in an intuitive, non-mathematical way. Using case studies and in-class games, students will learn an intuitive way of solving a typical problem within each of these theories, and how to apply this method to new problems.
EC-3530 Behavioural Economics

This module aims to make students aware of the psychological underpinnings of economic behaviour and recent theories in behavioural economics. The first half of the module will deal with individual choice, focusing on decision-making under uncertainty, risk, and the passage of time. The second half of the module will explore theories of human behaviour in social and strategic contexts and their applications to a range of economic environments.
