Ashley A. Mattheis is a scholar of communication. Her work brings together cultural studies, media studies, and visual rhetorical criticism, through the lens of feminist theory to explore the material effects of cultural production and consumption online. Her areas of inquiry include the digital cultures of the ‘Momosphere,’ the Alt-Right, the ‘Manosphere,’ and #Tradwives with a goal of better understanding how gendered logics are used to promote racial hate, discrimination, and to promote violence. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
