About

Ben Morgan is the Mechanical Engineering Teaching Tutor at Swansea University.

He holds a first-class with honours Meng in Mechanical Engineering, and is currently in the final submission stages of a Materials, Manufacturing, and Modelling EngD.

Ben’s doctoral thesis work is based on re-envisioning the design and optimisation methodology of passive prosthetic feet. It establishes the framework necessary to reach the final goal of producing a personalised design which assists the amputee in producing a balanced gait that alleviates future health concerns.

Ben provides academic support for the Mechanical Engineering design and simulation modules. As a new member of staff, he is working towards a fellowship in the Higher Education Authority.

EG-000 Fundamentals of Engineering Design

This module provides the essential skills required for future design modules and project tasks by providing a firm grounding for teamwork and emphasizing the need for professional standards and strong communication skills within engineering.
EG-110 Engineering Skills & Applications

Competence in engineering drawing using an industry standard CAD system and essential laboratory skills for Mechanical Engineers.
EG-3080 Engineering Management (Aero, EEE, Mech)

The goal of this course is to provide the skills for professional engineers to meet the challenges of their future careers, whether they be in academia, industry, or as an entrepreneur. Irrespective of future careers engineers will be involved in projects, management and business organisations and an awareness of these issues is important for all team members. It should be recognized that the topics included in the course are not limited to scientists and engineers, they are useful for people in any careers. This course will help develop the skills that will allow you to be a more effective project team member and also when you start to take on the role of project manager. Students will gain understanding of project and resource management, financial and environmental assessments, legal liability and responsibilities within business. This module will also provide support on careers development.
EGA132 Engineering Design 1

Engineering Design 1 aims to introduce students to fundamental principles of engineering design processes. Working on real world engineering problems, students will develop problem-solving skills, creative thinking, and an understanding of design considerations. Emphasis is placed on analysing and solving engineering problems while considering technical, economic, and often, societal factors. The module also focuses on effective communication of design ideas through sketching, CAD and technical drawings. Practical skills are achieved through the manufacturing of protype devices.
EGA214 Mechanical Engineering Design 2

Within this module students will be expected to complete a series of exercises that will the form the basis of a 'major' design. The scope of the module will involve the students to work in groups where they will consider, as a team, conceptual designs, embodiment using innovative approaches to design processes and standards etc., leading to final design documentations and manufacturing techniques.
EGA324 Mechanical Engineering Practice

The course builds on the knowledge and experience developed by the students in experimental studies during Level 2. A number of advanced scientific experiments will be undertaken. In addition, students will carry out a number of modelling benchmark problems in order to develop their ability to create appropriate models, interpret the predictions and compare them with alternative solutions.
EGA334 Mechanical Engineering Design 3

This module demonstrates the outcomes of three years of learning and applies multiple skills to a design project. The project will show that students can manage and deliver a design task, as a team, through all stages of the design process. Students should progress from specification to concept design, undertake analysis (using computer tools as appropriate) and produce a design report and assembly drawings.
