About

Dr Emma J. Watts is a Research Officer (postdoctoral researcher) in the Swansea Tephra and Volcanology team working with Dr Paul Albert on his UKRI Future Leaders Fellow grant. Her research is centred on reconstructing the eruptive histories at volcanoes using a combination of proximal and distal field data, goechemistry and GIS. 

Prior to her time at Swansea, Emma completed her MEarthSci degree in Geology/Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford (2014-2018), and PhD in volcanology (2018-2023) at the University of Southampton. Following her PhD, Emma completed a year as a Teaching Fellow in Geology at the University of Southampton teaching and coordinating courses including: Volcanology and Mantle processes, Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology and the Tenerife Volcanology field course as well as teaching courses in Structural Geology and Geohazards.

Emma joined Swansea University in June 2024 and is based at the Singleton Campus. She is currently learning welsh (lefel canolradd).
