About

Dr Llinos G Harris is a Senior Lecturer in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at Swansea University Medical School, having worked as a Senior Research Assistant within the Medical School for several years prior to being promoted to an academic position. Her specialisation is in microbial pathogenesis and antibiotic resistance; with specific interest in staphylococcal biofilm formation and its role in pathogenesis of medical device associated infections and nosocomial infections. Llinos is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and is module lead and teaches on several Genetics, Biochemistry and Applied Medical Sciences modules. She also actively supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.

Llinos completed her MSc (Aberystwyth) thesis  on optimising backscattered electron imaging of cell adhesion sites for scanning electron microscopy at the AO Research Institute, Davos, Switzerland, and then a PhD titled “Molecular analysis of Staphylococcus aureus adhesins” at the University of Sheffield in collaboration with the AO. She then working for several years as a post-doctoral at the AO under the mentorship of the current Director, Prof R Geoff Richards. During her time at the AO, Llinos worked on several projects focusing on the biocompatibility of commercially available biomaterials to eukaryotic cells (fibroblasts, osteoblasts), staphylococci (mainly S. aureus) and other relevant bacteria.
