Dr Laura Mason is an Associate Professor in Exercise Physiology and is Co-Head of Department for Sport and Exercise Sciences. Laura is a Swansea University alumnus having completed her BSc, MPhil and PhD studies at Swansea.
Laura’s broad research interests include exercise for individuals with Chronic Kidney Disease and Renal Allografts (in which she completed her PhD), health-related factors associated with 2D:4D digit ratio and lower limb muscular imbalance in both elite and clinical populations. Through this work she collaborates with a number of organisations including the NHS, Swansea City FC and various charitable bodies.
In addition to her discipline specific research, Laura is involved with quality enhancement across the Sport and Exercise Sciences sector sitting on the steering committee for the BASES Education and Teaching Special Interest Group and acting as a Quality Reviewer and External Expert for the QAA. She has been a Senior Fellow of the HEA since 2018. Laura also conducts pedagogic research in this area with recent work focussing around the use of Virtual Reality for enhancing anatomy education.
