About
Melitta specialises in cardiorespiratory fitness and physical activity across the health, fitness and life-span, with a particular interest in paediatric and clinical populations. Specifically, Melitta is interested in the dose-response relationship between physical activity and health outcomes across the activity spectrum, from breaking up prolonged sitting in sedentary individuals to determining the acute and chronic influences of intensive exercise training. Building on earlier work on inspiratory muscle training and high-intensity interval training for children and those with respiratory conditions such as asthma and cystic fibrosis, Melitta’s most recent work has focused on the development of home-based rehabilitation strategies for people experiencing Long COVID. Melitta’s work also investigates the role of maturation in physical activity and exercise training responses in youth, seeking to identify optimal training strategies to inform long-term athlete development models. As the Research Lead for the Welsh Institute of Physical Activity, Health and Sport (WIPAHS), Melitta strives to ensure the translation of research into practice to generate high-quality, meaningful impact.
