About

Steve is Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology, heading up the vibrant Reproductive Biology and Gynaecological Oncology research group.

His research focuses on the application of molecular, cellular and nano biology to understand gynaecological pathologies including cancer and infertility. He is currently working on transcription and epigenetic disease processes, and the development of advanced therapeutics; Antibody Drug Conjugates (pre-clinical development), exosomes, and nanoparticle deliver systems. Steve works closely with businesses in the UK and internationally and the NHS in Wales to drive forward translational biomedical R&D.

He is Chair of the Board of Trustees of the British Society of Nanomedicine, Co-Vice Chair of the European Technology Platform – Nanomedicine and is programme board member on two national precision medicine initiatives: Advanced Therapies Wales and Genome Partnerships Wales, where he chairs the Research and Innovation workstream. He sits on the Wales Cancer Research Centre executive, leading the Industry and Innovation theme.

Steve was a founding Director of the Centre for NanoHealth at Swansea University, an interdisciplinary R&D facility delivering advances in nanomedicine. He is now Strategic Director of the Celtic Advanced Life Science Innovation Network [CALIN], an Ireland-Wales INTERREG project building a life sciences innovation bridge between Wales (Bangor, Cardiff, Swansea) and Ireland (Cork, Dublin, Galway).

Steve is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB). He is a Senior Affiliate Member of The Methodist Hospital Research Institute, Houston Texas, Distinguished Professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University, Suzhou Academy, China, and honorary consultant in the Swansea Bay University Health Board. He has editorial positions with the journals Cancers and Frontiers in Molecular Medicine.
