About

Dr Sara Jones is the programme director for the BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care. She primarily teaches on this programme as well as the MSc/PGDip in Public Health and Health Promotion. Sara is the Academic Employability Lead for the School of Health and Social Care.

Sara qualified as a nurse in 2009 and a specialist community public health nurse (health visitor) in 2014. She has over 15 years’ experience working with adults and children across both the hospital and community settings in the UK and Australia. She maintains her professional skills and experience by working bank shifts in the NHS as a nurse. Sara brings this wealth of real-world experience to her teaching.

She is an inclusive and enthusiastic teacher, and this led to her being nominated by her students to receive a Swansea University Excellence in Learning and Teaching Award in 2024. Her students commented on her interactive teaching style, approachability and dedication to ensuring no student is left behind. Sara is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Sara is also an active researcher in the Centre for Lactation and Infant Feeding Translational Research (LIFT) conducting research into maternal and child health, infant feeding and childhood obesity. Her work often involves collaborations with third-sector and community organisations, and she has experience in mixed methods research including online surveys, child growth measurements, qualitative research, community science and systematic review. Her research aims to improve services impacting women and children.

She has an interest in infant and young child feeding in emergencies (IYCF-E) and in 2016 volunteered as in infant feeding expert for Nurture Project international in their Greece response programme.

Sara is a qualified yoga teacher and enjoys practicing and teaching it in her spare time.
