About

Dr. Lisa Trainor joined Swansea University in 2024. She completed her BKin, MA, and PhD at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Within the field of sport psychology, her MA research was focused on sport injury and psychological well-being of university athletes and her PhD research explored Olympic and Paralympic athletes' psychological well-being. During her PhD, Lisa had the opportunity to work remotely, travelling globally to network with other researchers with similar areas of study.

Lisa's research interests revolve around athlete well-being and qualitative methods. Her interest in athlete psychological well-being includes working toward a greater conceptual understanding of what well-being looks like in a high-performance context, as well as generating practical strategies to support athlete well-being. Further, her interest in qualitative methods spans both the comprehension (demystification) and continued development of qualitative methods, in particular reflexive thematic analysis.

In addition to her research, Lisa enjoys both playing and watching sports. As a former varsity athlete (ice hockey) she has experience in both being an athlete and working with athletes as a mental skills consultant.
