Our Students' Union supports over 150 societies

Swansea University has a strong campus-based student community.  From visual arts to poker; real ale to gospel, the Students' Union most likely has the perfect society for you - and if it doesn't, the Union makes it easy for you to start your own!

Joining a club or society is a great way to meet like-minded people and make new friends.  It can also give you valuable transferable skills for gaining future employment - especially if you take a lead role in the running of the group.

You can browse or sign up to a sports club or society at any time by visiting the Students’ Union website. There will be lots of opportunities to find out more about what they have to offer during the welcome period.

For the full list of societies, and for more information, please visit the Students' Union Societies page.

Hello, I'm Madelyn, your Societies and Services Officer!

As societies and services officer, Maddy will be supporting all of the SU’s societies, in addition to overseeing and having a say on the running of all of the Union’s services. These services include JC’s, Cove, Costcutter, Y Stiwdio, Nursery and the Advice and Support centre. She also sits and chairs the Society Exec Committee, which ensures all the societies are fairly represented.

Maddy is enthusiastic, passionate and approachable, overall just being a friendly face to talk to. She has lived in South Wales her whole life, studying Zoology at Swansea University, showing her love for all types of animals. The student union has been a major part of Maddys time at the Universirty being largly involved in many societies and clubs including the Dance Society, Cheerleading and Hockey. Last year she was President of the Dance Society where she found her passion for creating new and exciting events for all members. This year maddy is hoping to use these skills learnt to help prioritize student voices and societies, helping students gain more valuable experiences and opportunities.

Hi, I'm Robbie, your Students' Union Sports Officer!

Robbie recently graduated from his undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Studies with Practitioner Status, and since joining Swansea University back in 2022 has been in the Surf Club, played for Rygbi Tawe and been a part of Wild Swimming. Achieving social sec of Wild Swim halfway through his 1st year, Robbie then became the social sec for the Surf Club in his 2nd year, then progressing to be President of the Surf Club in his 3rd year. Robbie is the key point of contact between students, the Student's Union and Sport Swansea, working with all 3 to put on huge events such as the Welsh Varsity.

Robbie joined the Surf Club in the freshers week of his 1st year having never surfed before, got absolutely hooked and now can't stop! He went from absolute beginner to competing in BUCS Surfing in his 3rd year. Out of hours, Robbie will either be in the ocean, on the beach, or out on Wind St. for a boogie!
